No saturday afternoon episode??

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

I just realized that the second half of the BSG season won’t air until 2009… *Miffed.  Nice way to trick everyone into thinking it was the final season and then really make it two seasons, SciFi…

Good it possibly be true?

lms.pngSo, since I have no cable/tv/internet at my place, I decided to use my netflix account for the summer to watch the entire James Bond franchise because it seems like some sort of male requirement. I just finished the Sean Connery movies; basically the plot is God awful but Connery is awesome. I am already expecting Roger Moore to disappoint.

Last Friday, after leaving the bar early because of my annoyance with type of conversation that was going on, I went and got the latest season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. It was funny as usual but I was really upset that his wife on the show, Cheryl, leaves him half way through the season! I was devastated. She was my ideal TV wife.

Concession and Community

lms.pngPerhaps I am just biased, but did anyone else think that was by far the most heartfelt/honest speech she gave in the whole primary season?  At least I hope it was sincere.  We shall see precious.

On another note, the thing I like most about linux is the great community and support and the friends I have made through Fedora and a few also now through Ubuntu.  However, every once in awhile, you run across a real jerk, and I simply don’t have the patience for these people… Totally counterproductive, Gah!

Oak Ridge

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

So, I made it to Oak Ridge OK (it was actually about two weeks ago).  I went to Florida first and drove some furniture down from my parents place with my dad.  By furniture, I mean an air mattress and a fold up card table and chair. The apartment is actually quite a bit bigger than my place in Berkeley (and half the price); so I have lots of awesome carpet space now.  What I don’t have, however, is any of the following: a phoneline, cable, internet or even a TV; so, I have been working at the lab from about 8am to 9pm pretty much everyday. The lab is quite nice, aside from being 15 miles away from any place I could live, necessitating my renting of a car.  Now I can’t I can’t be all self-righteous about people driving everywhere and destroying the environment… ;)   At least my work is on solar cells; so, I can sorta say I am still doing my part…

The “city” of Oak Ridge on the other hand seems to be what you would get if you take a small southern city (something like Anderson, SC) and then remove all the industry and drop the population by ¾… There is a Walmart and mall where the inside is completely empty because all the stores left, a few restaurants and  Starbucks (where at least my att DSL account from Cali allows me to use the wifi for free).  Knoxville is pretty close by, which offers a bit more excitement, and I think I will head to Nashville and Memphis over a couple weekends.
