Makers
Saturday, May 10th, 2008Last week a friend and I went to the Maker Faire, which is a biyearly festival in the Bay Area and Austin. It was pretty amazing. I took a lot pictures that you can see here.
Here are some notable ones:
1. The had a bunch of large statues made out of thrown out building parts. A major theme of the faire seems to be reusing old parts to do amazing things.
2. This was an actual WW2 naval ship contest. The remote control ships actually shot low velocity bullets that pierced the hull of the other ships causing them to really sink. It became apparent however that the plastic they had around the arena was insufficient when the person standing next to me took a bullet in the throat and someone behind got one on his cheek and started bleeding.
3. This was built by a Berkeley group who I previously donated some old hardware, too. I now find out what they did with it… They made this semi-sentient being who spouts quotes from Alice in Wonderland at you when it detects you walking by.
4. No explanation necessary…
5. They had a battlebot arena.
6. Full size mousetrap!
7. The hot mice!
Edit: Sarah and Darcy might also like this one…
